The Transport Control Protocol/Internetwork Protocol was developed cooperatively by members of the industry using Request for Comments (RFC) document 1122. Similar to the OSI Model mentioned before the TCP/IP its a way to understanding how computers communicate. In this model we only have 4 layers.
Layers and function:
Application: Represents application data to the user
Transport: Supports communication between devices an perform error correction
Internet: Finds the best path through the network
Network Access: Controls hardware devices and media
